Insanity

I'm tired. This semester is insanity. I don't want this blog to go anymore fallow than it already has.

A quick little note.

My last post ended with a belief that perhaps Sheridan might be a great QB.
My prediction was incorrect.
Harbringer of Doom is henceforth Sheridan's title.

Threet on the other hand is developing quite well in my opinion, as long as his elbow gremlins are kept at bay by the sacrifice of unicorns in Barwis ritualistic circles of death, I think he will continue to grow into an excellent QB.

And woah Graham... woah. Stick around. Please?

Glasnost

This is a topic which has been hashed...
Rehashed.
Dehydrated.
Reconstituted.
Hashed again.
Then summarily beaten - dead horse style.
But I feel like pondering it some more!

Coach Rodriguez certainly has brought an openness that certainly did not exist in the Wolverine football program under Coach Carr. There has been media access to practices. We held a televised practice on BTN. The problem with all of this access is that it only has brought us more questions and concerns. The Wolverine fan community (at least the blaggers and readers of blags) have never been so uneasy and divided over a season. We have no real clue as to who are starting quarterback will be against Utah, let alone what our offense is going to look like. I’m scared as hell, yet… DAMN I’M PUMPED. We’re down to 8 days left. Mysteries will be solved.

Or so we think.

The glasnost of Comrade Rodriguez’s regime may not be all it seems. I don’t think we will truly see what we are in for this year until conference ball starts. I wish I knew what we were going to be running this fall. I wish I knew who the quarterback was. It is kind of like a kid at Christmas, wishing he could open his gifts early.

*unwrapping noises*

Woah! Just what I always wanted!
Threet is starting quarterback and should have been given a fifth star as a recruit!
Then comes the time when the toy breaks and it’s not really what you expected anyway.
That is ok though, that’s what birthdays are for.

I would rather not know what I’m getting for Christmas. The excitement is worth the wait.

Local Baseball

There is a group of random people, some students, some not, some older, some younger, that get together and play baseball on the weekends during Summer in Ann Arbor parks. First and foremost, if you have any interest in this at all, drop me an e-mail at will.gibbins(at)gmail(dot)com. Its hardball but we're lame and not very good so its mostly just about the fun. Heck, some of us haven't ever played, or at least haven't played since little league.

I want to say a few things about this.

1. Ann Arbor has some beautiful baseball fields in the city parks.
e.g. West Park and Veterans' Memorial Park

2. Some of the city team people need to learn how mutual respect works. We understand that you have such and such park reserved for a certain time. If you're there, let us know what time you have the field reserved for, we will gladly oblige, as well as make sure we leave early enough so you can warm up on the field before your actual reservation time.

3. Do not walk up to us at 12 pm in a city park and do the following:

Adult City Team Coach: Are you guys playing?
Me: Yes…
Coach: Hardball? [apprehensive look]
[A sign near the backstop says no soft-toss]
Me: Yes….?
Coach: Well you need to get off this field; you’re not allowed to be here.
Me: Wha… what? Why?
Coach: This is our field we have a game here.
Me: When?
Coach: 2 PM
Me: What time do you guys have the field reserved for?
Coach: [angrily] I JUST SAID 2 PM!
Me: We will be off before then.
Coach: You aren’t allowed to be here! Get off the field!
Me: Ahh fine, whatever.

[We had every right to be on that field]

Hello Again

After being disappointed by the Baseball regionals (what were we thinking pitching-wise!?) I got a bit behind in the writing. I do intend to continue writing nonsense about Michigan / Ann Arbor / whatever else I feel like.

Brian @ MGoBlog has revamped his site which now includes registered comments (hell yeah) as well as a section he currently dubs 'diaries'. It is kind of like mini-psuedo-blogs on his site. Basically he just increased the amount of time I waste there two, maybe three-fold.

My introductory diary post was just a dumb little campfire song singing the praises of UM. The original Discovery Channel commercial is worth checking out though, it is pretty cool.

NCAA Baseball Regional

Game 1
#1 Arizona 13
#4 Eastern Michigan 7

Game 2
#2 seed Michigan 7
#3 seed Kentucky 5

A quick little note about the games.
I was impressed by the fight Eastern put up against Arizona. If Eastern can hold off the Kentucky bats at 2 PM today they have a great chance of winning that game. Yesterday the Michigan vs. Kentucky game was suspended due to some nasty rain and lightning. The game was suspended with Michigan leading 5-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Today the game picked back up rather quickly, Katzmen pitched strong through the seventh inning and Michigan faced some dangerous situations with loaded bases. Kentucky got back in the game near the end scoring a few runs and threatening with the Wolverine lead cut to 7-4. Powers was brought in with the bases loaded and he managed to finish up the game allowing only one more run. The Wolverines win it 7-5 and will face Arizona at 7 PM today. Recknagel is going to be out most likely for the game this evening following a wrist injury.

Way to go BTN for your winning coverage of the baseball regional!

oh wait...

Seven Nation Army

we're gonna fight em all
an Arizona army couldn't hold us back
they're gonna strike em out
pitching fastballs right behind their bat

and we're cheerin for the eagles
because we can't forget
South and East down Washtenaw
Behind a brick tower
lies Eastern our local allies
so leave em alone

we're goin to Omaha
far from this stadium for victory
they're gonna work the plate
make them swing at every ball
and we're bleeding, and we're bleeding, and we're bleeding
Maize on top of Blue.
all the games will be lost by them
and they will sing no more
and the strikes thrown by Powers
tell em go back home

Random little thing I made up based on the rant about _____ Nations and _____ Armies at MGoBlog. I threw it on here because maybe someone may find it entertaining. Probably not.

Coming Up This Weekend

I will hopefully be attending the NCAA Baseball regional being held at the Fish this weekend. Sadly not Friday due to previous commitments, but I will be providing a recap/my take on the games I attend. I suggest anyone in the area go, it should prove to be a good time.
